Man remains in critical condition after Waterford attack

Gardaí investigating the serious assault arrested two males, aged 22 and 20, at around lunchtime yesterday. One has been released without charge.

ONE MAN IS still being held by gardaí in Waterford after a man was seriously assaulted in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The male, aged 22, was assaulted shortly after midnight yesterday in the Wlliamstown area of Waterford City and remains in a critical condition.

The injured male was brought to Waterford General Hospital in an unconscious state and he was later taken to Cork University Hospital.

Arrest

Gardaí investigating the serious assault arrested two males, aged 22 and 20, at around lunchtime yesterday.

One male was arrested in Portlaoise and the other in Kilcormac, County Offaly.

The 20-year-old has now been released without charge and gardaí are preparing a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The second man is being detained in Waterford Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.
