200 cannabis plants found in house in Kilkenny

GARDAÍ HAVE DISCOVERED 200 cannabis plants at a house near Kells village in Co. Kilkenny.

The plants were found in a detached house as part of an investigation into the cultivation of illegal drugs. They were found at about 5pm today in the house at Haggard Road.

The seizure has an estimated street value of €160,000, subject to analysis.

No arrests were made and the investigation is ongoing.

Yesterday 800 cannabis plants were found in a property in Menlough in Galway. One man in his twenties was arrested.

I commend the Journal for reporting these busts. It gives a window in to how much resources are wasted on the criminalisation of Cannabis. Keep it up. The biggest way to change something is to show it for the fool that it is.

  If you still don’t see how big the market for this plant is rb then you seriously need to remove your head from your anus. The tax we could haul in from this would pay for a lot more than you realise! If it had killed anyone at anytime then maybe there’d be room for debate,but there’s actually no decent reason not to regulate it

haven’t heard of a cocaine or heroin seizure in a while ? ? ? Its annoying that there is people walking around town strung off their faces in front of gards but light up a joint and you’d know all bout it !

Why, every week without fail, do you report these ‘cannabis busts’?? Is this all the garda press office sends you or is there a hidden agenda behind making a herbal plant, that has been around for thousands of years, sound criminal in today’s Irish society??

It’s quite simple really conor. 160,000% 800 = €200 per plant. This is the street value of a full grown plant based on what they think it would make when sold as cannabis. nThe value is set for every find not made up. n

While I agree that cannabis should be legalised I think the big problem is that our government/authorities don’t and possibly never will have the savvy to figure out a regulation method. If it can’t be regulated then the problem becomes bigger because it will drive the Market even more underground and dealers will become even more ruthless.
