GOOD EVENING

The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock…

EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you should know before you head out the door.

1. #JOBS: The retail sector took a hit today with the announcements that M&S will close four unprofitable stores here and Superquinn is to rebrand itself as SuperValu with over a hundred job losses in each company.

2. #SHOOTING: Gardaí are investigating a drive-by shooting that took place in Dublin’s city centre last night. A man in his 30s was shot by an individual who was pursuing him on a motorcycle.

3. #SHOPPING: New research has shown that women are still taking charge of the big shop with over half of men saying that they have no responsibility for food shopping at all.

4. #FOOD SAFETY: The number of food safety enforcement orders in July doubled with nine restaurants closed down and seven prohibition orders served to businesses who had unsafe or illegal food.

5. #PUNCHED: A zookeeper in Bristol has been suspended from his job after allegedly punching a seal. An investigation is underway and the seal has been placed in protective custody (Okay, we made that last bit up).
