GOOD EVENING

The 5 at 5 Five minutes, five stories, five o’clock…

EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five news stories you need to know before you hit the road.

1. #GUERIN REPORT The Guerin report – which cost Alan Shatter his job – has been released. Here’s the full report and its recommendations, what whistleblower Maurice McCabe thinks of it, the issues Seán Guerin wants probed, and what Mary Lynch, who was viciously assaulted in 2007 believes it will do.

2. #GARDA SIOCHÁNA New Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has set up a full inquiry and an independent Garda authority after the publishing of the Guerin Report. She has also announced plans for a “new era of policing”.

3. #ELECTION 14 Fianna Fáil has condemned an anti-Semitic remark allegedly made by a canvasser working with an outgoing councillor in south Dublin. The council is also looking at the incident and may ask the gardaí to examine if it has infringed the Incitement to Hatred Act.

4. #AER LINGUS Cabin Crew at Aer Lingus have voted for industrial action, which the union Impact says shows the “frustration” of cabin crew over roster patterns. The union members say that management have not engaged with them.

5. #MEDICAL CARDS Nurses have written an open letter to the Minister for Health, Dr James Reilly, expressing their concerns about the “vicious” medical card situation. They say that it is “only a matter of time” before somebody “is pushed over the edge by this unjust system”.
