EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five stories you need to know as you head out the door.

1. #PAT HICKEY: The family of Pat Hickey has released a statement saying that his arrest and detention in Rio has been ‘worrying’. Hickey has stepped down from his role as president of the Olympic Council of Ireland while the investigation continues.

2. #COURT: France’s highest court has suspended a controversial ban on burkinis in a French town after it was challenged by human rights groups. The decision is likely to set a precedent for around 30 French towns which have banned the garment.

3. #RIP: Former tánaiste and deputy leader of Fine Gael Peter Barry – who was also the man behind the popularity of Barry’s Tea – died today at the age of 88. Political leaders have paid tribute to Barry for his role in Irish politics, particularly in helping negotiate the Anglo Irish Agreement.
