1. #JOLANTA: A 26-year-old man arrested yesterday morning by gardaí investigating the fatal stabbing of Jolanta Lubiene and her daughter in Killorglin, Co Kerry has been released without charge, with a file to be prepared for the DPP. He is the second man to be arrested and released in connection with the killings.
2. #CRIME: The latest stats show an increase in false imprisonment cases, but a decrease in the overall crime rate. However, there’s been criticism of the figures, with one TD saying the drop merely reflects the fact that there are fewer gardaí around to catch criminals in the act.
3. #ANGLO TAPES: Taoiseach Enda Kenny has described the secretly recorded 2008 conversations of Anglo bosses as “a thunderbolt”, and he says he agrees with Chancellor Angela Merkel’s opinion of the tapes. The German leader said she had “nothing but contempt” for the comments made in the recordings.
4. #HANSFIELD: A West Dublin train station has finally opened, three years after being built at a cost of €10 million. The delay was due to an access road not being built. The first train finally pulled in at 7am this morning following the resolution of a long-running dispute between Fingal County Council and the developer, Manor Park Homes.
5. #COPPERS: A 33-year-old woman who sued the well-known nightclub for injuries sustained in a fall on the dance floor while out with workmates has lost her case. Lawyers for the defendant said she was dancing to a Shakira song when a colleague she was dancing with fell on top of her. She had claimed the fall was as a result of a slippery floor.
