1. #CRASH: Tributes are being paid to businessman and former senator Dr Edward Haughey, who was one of four people killed in a helicopter crash in the UK last night. Haughey — who held the title of Lord Ballyedmond — was Northern Ireland’s richest man, and also sat in the House of Lords.

2. #ACTION: Aer Lingus has announced it’s suing SIPTU for damages over the impact of this week’s threatened strike on the airline’s business.  A four hour work-stoppage that had been due to go ahead this morning was blocked in the high court on Wednesday.

3. #BLACK DAY: 140 Donegal-based jobs are to go, with the closure of the Largo Foods plant in Gweedore. Production will transfer to the firm’s other operations in Meath by August.

4. #NEW YORK: Rescuers scouring the rubble of two Manhattan apartment buildings destroyed in a gas explosion have found the body of an eighth victim, nearly 36 hours after the disaster.

5. #NO COP: Could one and two cent coins soon be a thing of the past? Following the results of a trial scheme in Co Wexford, it’s now looking more likely.
