1. #PENALTY POINTS: Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan is to take legal advice over two garda whistleblowers who are planning to answer questions about the penalty points controversy in the Oireachtas. Commissioner Callinan said the allegations about garda malpractice were “disgusting“.

2. #AUSTRALIA: A 39-year-old mother-of-three from Northern Ireland has been found dead in a pool of blood in a car park in Sydney, Australia. Comrie Cullen’s estranged husband is under police guard in hospital where he is being treated for self-inflicted injuries.

3. #CANADA: Three people are dead and 30 are missing after a large fire broke out overnight at a home for the elderly in Canada.

4. #GONE: Irish Times columnist John Waters has resigned from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

5. #SOCIAL ORDER: A District Court judge has suggested the Civil Defence should be deployed in the Dublin suburb of Tallaght following a number of violent deaths in the area. Judge Anthony Halpin said there has been a “total breakdown of social order“. His comments have been described as ‘hysteria’ by a local TD.
