1. #WINDS OF CHANGE: Met Éireann has issued an orange alert for this evening’s weather, warning the public to expect heavy winds of up to 130 km/hr along with heavy rain, high tides and flooding, especially in coastal areas. Brrrr.

2. #LIMERICK: Three senior members of staff at Limerick National City of Culture have resigned, only hours after the launch on New Year’s Eve. Artistic director Karl Wallace said there was a breakdown in communication with CEO Patricia Ryan.

3. #MIND THE GAP: House prices in Dublin are now almost one third higher on average than the rest of the country, according to a new survey which found a 28 per cent price differential.

4. #DEATHS: A 40-year-old woman has appeared in court charged in connection with the murder of Wayne McQuillan who died after being stabbed at a house in Drogheda in the early hours of New Year’s Day. Separately, a 20-year-old man seriously injured in an assault in Dublin on New Year’s Day has died in hospital.

5. #RESCUE: All 52 passengers who have spent more than one week stranded on a research ship which got trapped in 3 metres of ice in Antarctica have been airlifted to safety today in a dramatic rescue mission.
