1. #EGYPT: An official from the Irish embassy in Egypt has visited the four Halawa siblings who are being held at a detention centre in Cairo. Minister of State Joe Costello said the four were in good spirits but that the situation in relation to legal proceedings against them is unclear.
2. #PROPERTY PRICES: House prices across the country have risen by 2.3 per cent over the past year, with Dublin prices now 8 per cent higher than this time last year, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office. It is the biggest growth in house prices in more than five years.
3. #PERU: Michaella McCollum Connolly and Melissa Reid, the two women accused of drug trafficking in Peru, have arrived in court from the police headquarters where they were being held. The pair will either be formally charged or else released. Connolly’s lawyer said the Tyrone woman will protest her innocence.
4. #SUSPICIOUS DEATHS: A 66-year-old man has been arrested over the suspicious deaths of three women, all in their 40s and 50s, in Dromore in Down. One of the women died in April 2012 while the other two deaths are believed to have happened in 2007 and 2002.
5. #SEANAD RECALL: A controversial vote in the Seanad on whether Ireland should enact new legislation on organ transplants was tied this afternoon after Senators voted 22-22 on the issue. The chairman of the Seanad had to use his casting vote to break the deadlock and defeat the statutory instrument. In total, 15 Senators were absent when the vote was called.
