1. #MARIJUANA: A new opinion poll shows 38 per cent of people now support legalisation of cannabis in Ireland. As regards the state of the parties, the Red C poll — carried out on behalf of Paddy Power — puts Fine Gael on 28 per cent, ahead of Fianna Fáil on 22 pre cent.
2. #FEES: The Tánaiste has said that Irish Water must demonstrate that the €50 million it spent on consultants in the last year was “value for money” and “necessary”. CEO John Tierney revealed earlier today that half of the €100 million the company spent in setting-up over the last 12 months went on such fees.
3. #WIND: An Bord Pleanála has overturned a plan to build ten 110 metre wind turbines in Cloghan, Co Offaly. It was ruled that the structures (which would each have measured just ten metres shy of the height of the Dublin Spire) would impact the visual landscape of the area.
4. #APPEAL: Gardaí in Dublin are appealing to speak to any taxi drivers who may have picked up or dropped off people at a senior citizens’ complex where the body of a man was found on Monday. A murder investigation has been launched into the death of 63-year-old Thomas Horan.
5. #NEW LIFE: An astrophysicist with The Science Gallery in Dublin is the only Irish man on a shortlist of 1,000 people hoping to become the first humans to live on Mars. The only catch? The astronauts chosen for the mission can never return to Earth.
