1. #COURTS Michael Lowry was granted leave to apply for a judicial review of the tax charges he faces over allegedly filing false tax returns. The court heard his senior counsel argue that Lowry was “portrayed as a person who is sexist” in recent articles.

2. #INQUIRY The bank guarantee was described as a “destructive own goal” by an expert in bank fraud during today’s banking inquiry sitting. The European Commission’s Mario Nava also spoke at the inquiry today.

3. #SYDNEY Irishman Patrick Lyttle, who was allegedly punched by his brother Barry last month, has walked out of hospital in Sydney. He will now go for a month’s rehabilitation. His brother is charged with causing him grievous bodily harm.

4. #CALORIFIC Calorie counts will be printed on all menus in restaurants and takeaways after a new bill is enforced in 2016. It’s all in an effort to fight the rising obesity rate in Ireland.

5. #LOTTO BALLS The National Lottery is “very confident” that tonight’s draw will go ahead, after it was postponed yesterday due to technical problems.
