GOOD EVENING

The 5 at 5 Today’s 5 at 5: Waterford is seeking the return of a stolen Baby Jesus, the restructuring of Bank of Ireland has been approved, and a man has died at a Dublin courthouse.

EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you need to know before you head out the door…

1. #RETURN OF CHRIST A Waterford priest has urgently appealed for the return of a statue of Baby Jesus, which was taken from a crib in the city today. He described the theft as a ‘moment of madness’.

2. #GREEN LIGHT The Europe Commission signed off today on two plans: one to restructure Bank of Ireland, and a resolution scheme for Credit Unions. Finance Minister Michael Noonan welcomed the announcements, and said that the revised restructuring plan is “another step in the achievement of the Government’s strategy of returning the banking system to long-term viability and profitability”.

3. #DEATH A man has been found dead in Cloverhill Courthouse in west Dublin. He was being held in custody and was found dead in a holding cell. Foul play is not suspected.

4. #FILESHARING The government will legislate against illegal downloading next month, in an effort to curb the illegal downloading of films and music online. Junior minister Seán Sherlock has said he expects to issue secondary legislation by mid-January which is set to require ISPs to cut internet services for users who are ‘committing digital copyright theft’.

5. #APPOINTMENTS Labour’s Jan O’Sullivan has been appointed as a ‘super-junior’ minister, taking up a role at the Department of Environment with responsibility for housing and planning. The role was formerly held by Willie Penrose. Labour TD Joe Costello has been promoted to O’Sullivan’s former role, and will now be a junior minister responsible for trade and planning.
