GOOD EVENING

The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock.

EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five stories you need to know before you hit the road.

1. #HIGH COURT: THE HSE has told the court today that there is “no reasonable prospect” that the child of a clinically brain-dead woman who is 17 weeks pregnant will be born alive. Her family and the father of the unborn child wish for life support to the woman to be turned off.

2. #WAY FORWARD: There is “broad agreement” on a raft of issues – including flags, parades and welfare reform – among Northern Ireland politicians. This is the pre-Christmas breakthrough the talks have so needed.

3. #GLASGOW: One family has been decimated by the horrific bin lorry crash in which six people died in the Scottish city yesterday. It emerged that three of those are slose relations - Erin Sweeney, and her grandparents Jack and Lorraine Sweeney.

4. #PROPERTY: This is a heartening statistic for househunters – property prices in Dublin actually fell slightly (by only 0.1%) in November – but were still one-fifth higher than they were for the same month last year.

5. #CHRISTMAS CHEER: We’ve had a number of heartwarming Christmas moments today including the granny who met her new granddaughter for the first time at Dublin airport; the success of a young Irish woman who brought coveted Snow Glow Elsa dolls home from Australia for charity; the wonderful folks at Temple Street Children Hospital and the outpouring of gifts and cards from the Irish public to residents at Áras Attracta.

Don’t say we never bring you something nice.
