7 ways to have the time of your life in Newcastle

Join us on the full Geordie tour.

IF YOU’RE LOOKING to Visit England for a quick escape that’s fun, accessible, and affordable then you should definitely be considering Newcastle Gateshead.

A perfect mixture of culture and nightlife, it’s become an increasingly popular destination among the Irish. Let’s look at some of the ways you can spend your time with the Geordies.

1. Take a selfie with the Angel of the North

The largest angel sculpture in the world weighs 200 tonnes, so it won’t be hard to find. With a wingspan bigger than a Boeing 757 and standing five storeys tall, it really is an impressive sight.

2. Head to St James’. Howay the Lads!

The Toon Army are world renowned for their passionate support of the Premier League’s perpetually sleeping giant, which makes for an absolutely electric atmosphere in St James’ Park. Keep an eye out for Pardew’s famous “smiling penguin” tactics.

3. A night on the toon

There’s a reason Newcastle Gatehead’s such a popular group destination, the city is wall to wall with great bars and clubs. On top of that, the booze is cheap, the locals are a laugh and it’s only an hour away on the plane. It’s tough to find a better spot for a long weekend with friends.

4. Push your limits

Every year, thousands take on the tough but scenic 140 mile C2C cycle route that runs through the city. Alternatively, the Great North Run is the second largest half-marathon in the world. Mo Farah won the most recent event, ahead of over 57,000 competitors.

5. Enjoy a day at the races

Newcastle Racecourse literally has something for everyone. Bars and fine dining for the grown-ups, and bouncy castles or teacup rides for the wee bairns. The chance of winning a few bob doesn’t hurt either.

6. Get yourself to a gig

There’s a load of great arenas in the city, and upcoming shows include Kaiser Chiefs, The War On Drugs, Ed Sheeran, and Paolo Nutini. For the cultured tourist, iconic venues like the Theatre Royal are a must-see and always have a great selection of performances.

7. Have a gawk around Grey Street

Grey Street was recently voted the best street in the UK, both because of its great shops and restaurants and its incredible architecture. Built in the 1830s in a Georgian style, it remains perfectly preserved and very beautiful. In fact, the whole city’s pretty easy on the eye.
