75 people rescued from cable car stuck in mid-air

Three helicopters were used to ferry the passengers from the Diavolezza gondola in St Moritz.

RESCUE FORCES HAVE used helicopters to evacuate 75 passengers from a stalled cable car near the glitzy mountain resort town St Moritz, in Switzerland.

The Diavolezza gondola got stuck halfway up the mountain yesterday, rescue services said. It took about three hours to evacuate all passengers.

It was not immediately known what had caused the cable car’s defect.

Rega rescue services say three helicopters were used and nobody was injured in the incident.

The gondola named Diavolezza – or Little Devil in Italian – rises to almost 3,000m (10,000 feet), giving access to a glacier ski resort.
