1. #POST MORTEM: A post mortem is due to take place on a newborn baby that was discovered at a recycling facility in Bray, Co Wicklow yesterday. 

2. #DEAN FITZPATRICK: Deliberations are set to resume today in the case of David Mahon who stands trial over the death of his stepson Dean Fitzpatrick. 

3. #ELECTIONS: Elections are taking place across the UK today for councillors, mayors and police commissioners, including in Northern Ireland where votes will be cast on members of the Stormont Assembly.

4. #ELECTION: Fine Gael will engage in further talks with independent TDs after progress was made in talks yesterday.

5. #MENTAL HEALTH: Hundreds of Irish people still undergo electro-shock treatment, and a protest is set to take place this weekend calling for the treatment to be ended. 

6. #FIRES: A state of emergency has been declared in the Canadian province of Alberta after a wildfire force the evacuation of all residents of Fort McMurray, a town with around with a population of around 88,000 people.

7. #RETURNS: Government tax revenue are running around €500 million ahead of target, new exchequer returns have shown.

8. #END OF THE LINE: The New Day newspaper, launched in the UK just two months ago, is set to close. 

9. #MATERNITY SERVICES: The Irish Times is reporting on comments by Prof Michael Keane, the clinical director of St Vincents, who has said that pregnant women could face delays if the National Maternity Hospital is run separately from St Vincent’s hospital after relocation.
