The 9 at 9 Investigation after newborn baby dies in Cavan hospital, North Korea executes its defence minister, another Joan Burton car protest … and sunny weather on the way.

1. #BABY DEATH: An investigation is under way after a newborn baby died at Cavan General Hospital. The hospital has previously been at the centre of controversy over the standard of care in its maternity unit after three babies died there between 2012 and 2014.

2. #TRAIN CRASH: At least five people have been killed after a train derailed and overturned in Philadelphia. It’s reported that 65 people were hurt, six critically, after the train’s seven train cars were crushed.

3. #MISSING CHOPPER: A US Marine Corps helicopter carrying earthquake relief in Nepal has been reported missing. Six marines and two Nepalese soldiers were on board at the time.

4. #ATTACK: At least 41 people have been killed and 20 injured in a gun attack on a bus in the Pakistani city of Karachi, the BBC reports.

5. #ROAD DEATH: A 20-year-old man has been killed in a motorbike crash in Wicklow. It happened at The Demense at Blessington at 8:30pm last night.

6. #BLOCKED: Joan Burton’s ministerial car was briefly blocked by protesters as she left an event in north Dublin last night. A group of anti-water charge protesters lay down in front of the Tánaiste’s car as she attempted to leave a public meeting.

7. #RIP: The death of Larry Mullen Sr – the father of U2 drummer Larry Mullen – has been confirmed. He was 92. RTÉ reports that the band’s show in Canada is due to go ahead tomorrow as planned.

8. #NORTH KOREA: It’s understood that North Korea has publicly executed its defence minister. The ruling regime had accused him of treason, according to reports from South Korea.

9. #WARMING UP: After some unspectacular weather over the last few weeks, it’s set to get a lot more pleasant today. Temperatures will reach 17 degrees in some areas.
