4. #IRISH WATER: New figures obtained by The Irish Times have revealed the utility’s spend on legal fees – €81,000 per week, and a total of €4.9 million since it was established.

7. #OVERCROWDING: New data shows that Ireland’s prison service is close to reaching its maximum capacity, with some prisons already over-capacity. Three are at more than 100% capacity.

8. #TEACHERS STRIKE: Writing in today’s Irish Independent, Education Minister Jan O’Sullivan has said that compromises “on both sides” are needed in discussions with teachers over Junior Cert reforms. “The ball is in the union’s court,” she writes.

9. #GEANSAÍ NOLLAIG: A world record for the most people wearing Christmas jumpers in one place was set last night in Dublin. A total of 1,297 people flocked to O’Connell Street in the best festive attire.
