1. #CRACKDOWN: A new anti-burglary strategy is due to be announced by the Minister for Justice later today, the Irish Independent reports. Gardaí will target six crime gangs and more than 200 habitual burglars. We’ve taken a look this morning at the depleted garda resources in the border region.

2. #CAREFUL OUT THERE: Caution is urged on the roads as thick fog blankets many parts of the country. It has also caused delays at Dublin Airport, with passengers being advised to check the status of their flights.

3. #SINAI CRASH: As Irish inspectors travel to Egypt to help with the investigation into the Russian passenger plane crash, the IAA say the Irish-owned plane passed their own safety checks earlier this year.

4. #HALLOWEEN: A young man stabbed at the Oliver Bond flats in Dublin was attempting to stop a fight at the time, The Herald reports. Gardaí are reportedly investigating if a 15-year-old carried out the attack.

5. #BEAUMONT: A 29-year-old man is due in court in connection with a separate knife attack on Saturday inside Beaumont hospital. Another has been arrested over a stabbing in Clarehall.

6. #ADDICTION: Minister Aodhán Ó Ríordáin has told The Irish Times that supervised injection rooms for drug users will open next year. He is due to reveal details later of how the coalition plans to decriminalise the possession of small amounts of drugs.

7. #WATER PROTEST: Anti-Austerity Alliance TD Paul Murphy is due in court today along with several others in connection with the alleged false imprisonment of Tánaiste Joan Burton.

8. #HOMELESS: Families staying in emergency accommodation at a hotel in Clontarf were barred from using its bar and restaurant and had to use a side-entrance to enter the building, the Irish Daily Mail reports. The hotel backtracked after an intervention from the local council.

9. #RIP: Former US senator Fred Thompson, who appeared in several films including Die Hard 2 and TV series Law and Order has died, aged 73.
