1. #STORM: It’s windy out there this morning and Met Éireann is warning there may be spot flooding in parts of the country today. Some ferry crossing have already been cancelled this morning, though flights have not yet been affected by the high winds.

2. #LIMERICK: Former CEO of Limerick City of Culture Patricia Ryan is expected to make a complaint to gardaí about alleged hacking of her phone messages, the Irish Independent reports. Meanwhile, Chairman Pat Cox is refusing to step down following the controversy in recent days.

3. #PROPERTY: Rising house prices in Dublin are masking declines in all other parts in the country, according to a new report, with the average national asking price outside the capital falling by six per cent at the end of 2013.

4. #DALE CREIGHTON: Two men in their 20s are due in court today charged in connection with the death of 20-year-old Dale Creighton, who had been seriously assaulted in Tallaght, in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

5. #ASSAULT: Gardaí in Dublin are investigating an assault on a young woman in Dublin overnight. The woman was allegedly punched in the face by a man but managed to fight him off and escape.

6. #LITTER: A new survey has revealed that Dublin’s north inner city is a litter blackspot and is the dirtiest urban area in the country, the Irish Times reports. The cleanest town in Ireland will be announced later today.

7. #SENTENCING: A sex offender, convicted of abusing his stepdaughter for five years has been released from prison after five months, because the courts do not have time to review his ‘unduly lenient’ sentence, the Irish Daily Mail reports.

8. #SEPSIS: There is no data available for maternal sepsis in most maternity units across the country, according to a report in the Irish Times which says guidelines for collecting these figures have not been put in place by the HSE.

9. #SEVERE WEATHER: We may think we have it bad, but people in parts of the US are bracing themselves for a ‘polar vortex’ which could see temperatures plunge to -51 degrees Celsius. Authorities have been warning people their cars may not start and there may be issues with frozen pipes bursting.
