1. #REHAB The Public Accounts Committee is due to meet today – but Angela Kerins and Frank Flannery won’t be appearing before it. It will be hearing evidence from Rehab Group management, hoping that it gets the answers to these questions.
2. #STATE VISIT It’s day four of President Michael D Higgins’ State visit to the UK and today he will be journeying to a sustainable farm in Oxfordshire. During his visit, Bord Bia will give a presentation on the Irish food industry’s Origin Green programmme.
3. #TOP-UPS The HSE has rejected a “considerable number” of the 200 requests made by voluntary hospitals and health agencies to keep paying top-ups to senior personnel, says the Irish Times. The requests were made as business cases.
4. #JOBSWATCH SurveyMonkey is to open an office in Dublin, employing more than 50 people in the first twelve months. Some of its existing international team will relocate to Dublin from the company’s Lisbon office.
5. #OBAMA VISIT The trip by FLOTUS Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia to Ireland last year cost a total of $7.9 million, with $250k of that spent in Dublin, new Secret Service documents show.
6. #CANCER A terminal cancer patient has been ‘refused’ a mortgage insurance payout when she dies due to being €260 in arrears, a senator has claimed. Deirdre Clune said she finds this “deeply troubling”.
7. #GREECE A booby-trapped car exploded outside a Bank of Greece branch in central Athens this morning. Police said that no one was injured in the blast, which occurred at around 2.55am. Greece returns to the debt markets today.
8. #FLORIDA A young girl was killed and a dozen children were injured after a hit-and-run driver crashed into a creche in Florida. Police have launched a manhunt for the owner of the SUV that ploughed into the KinderCare centre.
9. #MH370 The hunt for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane is closing in on its “final resting place”. The search for more black box ‘pings’ has narrowed to a specific patch of remote ocean and searchers are “optimistic”.
