GOOD MORNING

The 9 at 9 Happy Friday all. Here’s nine things to know this morning…

EVERY DAY TheJournal.ie brings you nine things you should know with your morning cup of coffee.

1. #SHOOTING: A man is in hospital this morning following a shooting at The Paddocks estate in Termonfeckin, county Louth.

2. #BRAIN DRAIN: A new study into emigration has found that one in four rural households have said goodbye to one of their own. It also proves the country is suffering from ‘brain drain’ as highly-educated people look for work elsewhere.

3. #SYRIA: Russia and the US will present a resolution to the UN Security Council today after an agreement was reached on destroying Syria’s chemical weapons.

4. #CLIMATE: A major report on climate change will show that scientists are 95 per cent sure that global warming is a problem and that humans are to blame. [Sky News]

5. #SUICIDE: Ahead of the inquest last night into Shane McEntee’s death, the family of the late TD urged people to look out for each other and reach out to those in society who need help. [Irish Daily Mail]

6. #RESULTS: Eircom has reported full-year revenue of €1.4 billion, down 8 per cent on the previous financial year. The company now has 451,000 retail broadband customers.

7. #WESTGATE MALL: The story behind one of the most poignant photos from the Nairobi shopping centre attack has been revealed. An American family tells how their four-year-old Portia was brave enough to run across a corridor towards the stranger with a gun who was trying to save her. [The Daily Telegraph]

8. #PERKS: The Irish Examiner reports on a bizarre problem that bewildered a Limerick judge recently. When Justice Carroll Moran asked for gardaí to escort a jury to an award-winning restaurant for lunch, none could be found because of cutbacks. Eventually, two members were taken off street duty to take on the job.

9. #LÁ BREITHLÁ SONA DUIT: Google has officially hit adolescence. The internet giant turns 15 today and has celebrated with a special doodle (what else?). Check out the piñata-hitting interactive game. Warning: it’s fairly addictive.
