1. #POINTS RACE: Under a  proposed Leaving Certificate revamp, students could receive CAO points for what is currently considered a fail grade, according to the Irish Independent. A larger points gap between higher and ordinary level is being considered.

2. #IRAQ: The United States is looking at airlifting thousands of civilians who have been trapped on a mountain by Islamic State militants. It comes as the country’s prime minister said he would sue the president in a desperate bid to cling to his job.

3. #HEALTHCARE: There will be a small fee for visits to a doctor under the planned free GP care scheme, the Irish Independent reports. This will be aimed at deterring abuse of the system.

4. #TAX BREAKS: The Irish Examiner reports that the Government has been asked to consider implementing an income tax deal with new doctors to stop them from emigrating. This would relate to college fee repayments.

5. #PROPERTY: New evidence suggests that growth in construction industry could expand in the near future. Also this morning, a report in several papers states that a ghost estate in Clare was snapped up in ten days, with sales totalling €2.73 million.

6. #LOAN SHARK: Gardaí are currently investigating three cases of suspected illegal money lending across the country. However, over the past year, no prosecutions have been made.

7. #DIRECT PROVISION: As much as €30 million has been spent over the past decade on barristers specialising in asylum, the Irish Times reports. This is linked to a backlog of cases.

8. #EBOLA: A German student in Rwanda is being tested for the deadly Ebola virus. It is the first case in the country since the start of the outbreak.

9. #AN SÍOPA: The controversial shop at the entrance to Leinster House is set to reopen next year – as a gift shop. The shop had previously been dubbed as ‘the most expensive tuck shop in Ireland’
