1. #ROADS A female pedestrian died and another was seriously injured in a road accident in Dublin this morning. The occupants of the car were uninjured.

2. #FLOODING Parts of the country are still submerged due to floods – and there are still status yellow weather warnings in place. Today will be wet and windy at first, with more rain due to fall on Cork and Kerry, which are already suffering flooding.

3. #STRIPPER A garda probe into a performance by a male stripper at a garda station, after he had been stopped at a road traffic checkpoint, has found no evidence of corruption or malpractice, the Sunday Times reports.

4. #SAUDI ARABIA Iran’s top leader has warned of ‘divine revenge’ over the execution of an opposition Shiite cleric, Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, who had been accused of terrorism. Protesters stormed the Saudi embassy in Tehran over the incident.

5. #PAY Fine Gael’s Simon Harris has said Fine Gael is opposed to any rise in the minimum wage. He told the Sunday Times that the party instead proposes to ensure any parent working 15 hours or more a week would earn at least €11.75 an hour.

6. #REFUGEES A two-year-old boy has drowned after the dinghy he was travelling in hit rocks off a Greek island. AFP reports that he is the first known refugee casualty of 2016 due to his tragic death.

7. #HSE The Labour Party is proposing to break up the Department of Health and create a new Department of Social and Primary Care, the Sunday Times reports. The plans are contained in the party’s general election manifesto.

8. #NO WED Labour has devised an ad depicting Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams and Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin getting married, with the words: ‘This is one marriage we should vote NO to this year’. The Sunday Independent quotes a Sinn Féin spokesperson describing Labour as becoming “increasingly desperate” in the run-up to the general election.

9. #CHRISTMAS Fancy yourself a good Christmas tree thrower? Today people will compete in the fifth annual Irish Christmas Tree Throwing Championship in Co Clare.
