Aer Lingus announces increase in August passenger numbers

The total number of people travelling with Aer Lingus increased by 2.2 per cent overall in August of this year, although the number of short haul passengers was down by 1.2 per cent.

AER LINGUS GROUP plc has announced a small increase in passenger numbers in August of this year.

Its traffic statistics for the month of August 2012 show that total flown passenger numbers, including Aer Lingus Regional operations, increased by 2.2 per cent to 1,116,000 compared to August 2011.

More proof that the passenger numbers are up is in the load factor, which is a measure of how much an airline’s passenger carrying capacity is used.

  • Aer Lingus mainline’s flown passenger load factor in August 2012 increased by 1.6 points on August 2011 to 87.3 per cent.
  • Short haul flown load factor was 84.6 per cent, an increase of 1.2 points on August 2011, with capacity decreasing by 1.8 per cent.
  • Long haul flown load factor was 93.2 per cent, an increase of 2.4 points on August 2011, with capacity increasing by 4.0 per cent on prior year.

Aer Lingus mainline’s total flown passenger numbers in August 2012 were 1,009,000, which was a decrease of 0.4 per cent compared to August 2011.

The short haul passengers number in August 2012 was 906,000, a decrease of 1.2 per cent on August 2011, while long haul flown passengers in August 2012 were 103,000, an increase of 7.3 per cent on August 2011.

Aer Lingus Regional’s total flown passenger numbers in August 2012 were 107,000, an increase of 35.4 per cent compared to August 2011.
