Gardaí investigate aggravated burglary during which man was assaulted

It is reported that the man had his finger cut off and his face slashed during the burglary.

A MAN WAS hospitalised after being assaulted during an aggravated burglary yesterday in Waterford.

Gardaí at Dungarvan are investigating an aggravated burglary which occurred at Congress Villas in Dungarvan between 12am and 2am on Wednesday 26 September.

They said that four males entered a house and assaulted a male in his 50s. In the Irish Independent today, Eimear Ní Bhraonain and Tom Brady report that the man had his finger severed and was also slashed in the face and body during the assault.

Gardaí said the man received  injuries that are non-life-threatening and that he is currently at Waterford General Hospital. They said nothing was taken in the incident.

The area has been sealed off for technical examination and CCTV is to be viewed as part of the investigation.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the area between 12.30am and 2am on Wednesday and may have noticed anything suspicious to contact the incident room at Dungarvan Garda Station on 058 48600.
