LISTEN: Albert Reynolds's son gave a touching and emotional eulogy to his father yesterday

Philip Reynolds delivered a heartfelt eulogy to his father at his funeral mass in Donnybrook yesterday,

THERE WERE PLENTY of heartfelt tributes to the late Albert Reynolds at his funeral in Donnybrook yesterday but his eldest son’s eulogy at the end of the mass was particularly touching.

“Our hearts are broken,” Philip Reynolds began as he addressed the congregation at the end of the funeral mass.

Philip described how Alzheimer’s had robbed the late taoiseach’s grandchildren of the opportunity “to see the real dad, the family man, his lifetime’s teenage love for their granny and his wife, and the craic that endeared him to all of our friends as much as it was to ourselves”.

Albert Reynolds was a man who “knew where he was going and he knew what he wanted in life”, said his son who described his father more than once as a “simple, innately good, but brilliant man”.

The full tribute is well worth a listen:
