Teen arrested over explosive device in Dublin

The device was made safe yesterday evening in Coolock.

AN 18-YEAR-OLD male has been arrested after the discovery of an explosive device in Coolock, Dublin, yesterday evening.

As a result of ongoing investigations into criminal activity in the area gardaí stopped and searched the teen at Ferrycarrig Park at approximately 6pm.

While searching him, they discovered a suspected explosive device. The device was isolated and the immediate area was evacuated with a cordon and traffic restrictions in place for public safety.

An Army Bomb Disposal team was requested and after examination they made the device safe in situ without the need for a controlled explosion and took it from the scene for further examination. All component parts were later handed over to gardaí to assist them with their investigation.

The male was arrested and taken to Coolock Garda Station where he is still being detained.
