GARDAÍ IN CRUMLIN have arrested a man in connection with the death of a 74-year-old pensioner who was killed in his retirement flat in Kimmage yesterday afternoon.

The 29-year-old was arrested in Dublin City Centre in the early hours of Sunday morning, said Gardaí.

He is currently being detained at Crumlin Garda Station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act.

The victim has been named as Edward Boyan and a post mortem is currently underway in the City Morgue.

The victim’s body was found yesterday afternoon by fire fighters who were called to tackle a blaze in the flat. Gardaí have confirmed the man was stabbed in the chest and a knife believed to be the murder weapon was found at the scene.

It is understood that the fire at the flat in the Ravensdale Close retirement complex was started maliciously.

The investigation continues and detectives are carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area.

Gardaí have asked anyone who may have been in the area of Ravensdale Close in the hours leading up to the discovery of the body and who may have any information that will assist in the investigation to contact Crumlin on 01-6666600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111, or any Garda Station.
