Man arrested over suspicious device in Tallaght residential area

Two males tried to escape on foot after being stopped by Gardai in the Cushlawn Estate; one had a suspicious device.

A MAN in his 20s remains in Garda custody this afternoon after being arrested last night when he was found to be in possession of a suspicious device in a residential area in Tallaght.

The man was arrested after being pursued by Gardaí in the Cushlawn Estate at about 7:30pm. The suspicious device was found on his person.

Gardaí requested the assistance of the Army explosives ordnance unit, which attended the scene and removed the device for further examination.

The man was taken to Tallaght Garda Station where he remains detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

A second man who was intercepted by Gardaí managed to escape.
