Two arrested in organised crime sting in the midlands

The men in their 20s were detained as part of an investigation into gangs.

TWO MEN IN their 20s have been arrested as part of an operation targeting organised crime gangs in the midlands.

Both men are being questioned after being detained by gardaí from Tullamore Garda station yesterday.

One man in his early 20s was arrested in the Clara area of Offaly yesterday afternoon while the second, who is also in his early 20s, was arrested in Dublin last night. A car was also seized as part of the Dublin arrest.

One of the men is being detained in Birr while the other is in Tullamore Garda station.

The arrests come six days after gardaí carried out a number of searches on houses around Clara and Tullamore as part of the same operation.

Three people – two women and one man – were arrested during the searches. The man, who is in his 20s, remains in custody in Portlaoise Garda station. The two women were released without charge on Tuesday.
