Two men arrested in Savile sex abuse investigation

The two men were arrested today in London and remain in police custody.

TWO MEN HAVE been arrested on suspicion of sexual offences as part of the investigation into child sexual abuse by Jimmy Savile.

Metropolitan police said the two men, aged 64 and 74, were arrested in south London and taken into police custody today.

The men have been arrested as part of ‘Operation Yewtree’, which was originally launched when allegations against the BBC DJ were first made. The investigation is split into three strands – allegations involving Savile, those involving Savile and others and those involving others.

Police said the two men arrested today fall under the strand of the investigation termed ‘others’, indicating their alleged offences are not linked directly to Savile. They are the 15th and 16th people arrested as part of the operation.

The men can now be held for up to 36 hours for questioning.
