Exhibition hopes to make art from €2 tat

‘Fast Moving Consumer Goods’ will feature exhibits made only from stuff available at the average €2 shop.

AN ART EXHIBITION opening in Dublin next month will have an unusual theme: all of its exhibits will come from discount €2 shops.

‘Fast Moving Consumer Goods’, opening at the Talbot Gallery on December 6 – coincidentally, the day after Budget 2013 is announced – will feature exhibits put together entirely with stock bought from the cheap shops.

Among the items used to make the exhibits include sports paraphernalia, key rings and cards with popular baby names, Rastafarian-themed ash trays and toy animals.

Organisers say the exhibition aims not only to help visitors realise the many applications of some of the things they can find there – and will be laid out so that visitors encounter the products as if they were ageing throughout the experience.

‘Fast Moving Consumer Goods’, curated by Elaine Grainger and Claire Halpin, will run at Talbot Gallery and Studios from December 6 to 21.
