Poll: Should there be tougher penalties for using fireworks?

DO YOU THINK the punishments for using fireworks in Ireland should be strengthened?

Dublin North-West TD Noel Rock said that he’d “never had as many complaints in any year” as he had for Hallowe’en this year in relation to fireworks, bangers, antisocial behaviour and dumped materials.

Importing fireworks into the Republic, lighting fireworks, throwing an ignited firework or possessing a firework with the intention of selling it, are all offences.

The punishments range from a fine of €2,500 or imprisonment of up to 6 months (upon a summary conviction) to a fine of €10,000 and jail time of up to 5 year (conviction indictment).
