I’ve lived in Dublin for just under 10 years and I can count the amount of fights that I’ve seen in Dublin pubs on one hand. 4 of those years I lived in Temple Bar. Worst night of the year is the “12 pubs” night which is usually next Saturday for most people (weekend or so before Christmas break)….

Well imagine everyone who’s lived in Dublin for the same period can count the fights on one hand, or even half of them can, that’s still a lot of fights.

I live in Chicago and I’ve never seen a fight, but they happen about every hour from what you see on the news.. That’s why I don’t watch it anymore ! Only bad news nowadays

You could spend years discussing that. At the end of the day though you can blame bad parenting as the source to most issues.

Not understanding the effects of alcohol and bad parenting are not mutually exclusive, probably quite the opposite

I think we do know the circumstances? 2 groups where fighting and one of the guys ended out with a serious head injury. 3.20 in the morning? Think it’s safe to say they were out having a good night before hand… So pretty much anyone can comment on what their opinion is. Think that’s why the journal.ie allows a comments section in the first place.

Some people go out specifically to have a fight with someone, the night is not made for them until they do.

Sad but true Dave. Pity because Temple bar can be a great place to be but the agressive behaviour has people looking over their shoulders.

Just because a small minority do it doesn’t mean none of us can go out without getting in a fight. If it was so widespread it wouldn’t be reported in the media, twould take up all the column space. I was out on Essex street around the time this happened. Didn’t see it, but hope the guy pulls through ok. In fact we bounced around pubs and clubs and didn’t see any aggro anywhere, there actually seemed to be a good Christmassy buzz around town.

That’s the truth! I’ve seen more fights in Kilkenny in the couple of times I’ve been there than in Temple Bar.

True. Dublin is a relatively safe city. I don’t live there anymore but did for years and not a bother.

We get the odd trouble maker in the pub where I work, but they soon leave when my customers tell them thet I am a black belt in judo and was in the US special forces, and if that don’t work I break a concrete block with my bare hand.

I don’t think closing a Garda station in the a**hole of no where will really affect this type of crime to be honest. just my opinion.

It happens everywhere, not just Dublin.

But mainly Dublin. A city infested with horrible elements.

A man was pushed in front of a bus in our beloved capital a mere two days ago.

It may seem like that but I’ll make it easy for you to understand. There are more people in Dublin than say Cork, or Galway, so there would be more incidents of this kind as a result. But don’t kid yourself this even goes on in whatever idyllic community you think you live in.

Buses in Dublin fly at top speed around Dublin City centre as if they own the place. Dublin’s streets were not designed for the small streets of Dublin and the high speeds these buses go around Dublin City centre is a tragedy waiting to happen. Modern vehicles should be banned from Dublin City Centre.

Really James? I have nearly been killed so many time by Dublin Bus flying around Westmoreland Street onto the Quays its just not funny. My friend has also been hit by a Bus mirror on Westmoreland Street and had to go to hospital.

First off Nuffsaid didn’t remove the option to reply to him, there is no option to to reply to specific replies you have to reply to the first post and direct your comment towards the person. He didn’t didn’t once in his comment use past economic hardship to justify current economic hardship, his point was that in the past violent behaviour wasn’t excusable even under economic hardships and it still isn’t excusable today.
