INSURANCE FIRM AXA has been hit by a security breach to their weekend break scheme.
The Data Protection Commissioner’s office earlier today confirmed that inspectors will investigate the company at the centre of the breach, Loyaltybuild.
Last night it emerged that the breach at Supervalu, first reported last week, was more serious than initially thought.
Some 62,500 Supervalu Getaways customers were warned that there was a “high risk” that an unauthorised third-party had accessed their card details.
Now, Axa has confirmed that 8,000 customers of their weekend break scheme have been affected.
This morning the Data Protection Commissioner told RTÉ’s Morning Ireland that inspectors will visit Loyaltybuild’s Ennis offices.
Billy Hawkes said that his office were told of the issue last week and were told it was more serious than first thought last night.
“We discovered that the criminals involved have all the information they need to use the credit cards of affected people.
“We’re sending inspectors to the offices of the company that ran these schemes.
The key thing is for people to check their credit card bills from the last two years. Check if there are any unauthorised transactions.
