A 20-YEAR-OLD WOMAN who was arrested as part of an investigation into the sudden death of a 4-month-old baby boy has been released without charge.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and investigations are ongoing at Claremorris Garda Station, where the woman was detained.

The unexplained death occurred following an incident at a residence in Bohola, Co Mayo on 28 December 2016.

The baby was taken by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar and later removed to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin where he was pronounced dead on 1 January 2017.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out by the State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy and a preliminary report has been forwarded to investigating gardaí.

Details of the results of the post mortem are not being released for “operational reasons”, according to gardaí.
