IRISH ACTORS SAOIRSE Ronan and Michael Fassbender have been nominated for BAFTA awards.

Brooklyn

Ronan has been nominated for her role in John Crowley’s Brooklyn (which is based based on the novel by Colm Tóibín, and is up for six awards), while Fassbender got the nod for his title role in Steve Jobs.

Ronan is up against Cate Blanchett for Carol, Maggie Smith for The Lady in the Van, Alicia Vikander for The Danish Girl, and Brie Larson for Room (a film by Irish director Lenny Abrahamson).

She’s also in the running for Best Actress at the Golden Globes on Sunday night and Best Actress at the SAG awards. Last week she was awarded Best Actress at the New York Film Critics Circle awards.

Fassbender meanwhile is competing with Bryan Cranston for Trumbo, Eddie Redmayne for The Danish Girl, Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant, and Matt Damon for The Martian.

He’s also up for a Golden Globe this weekend.
