There were a number of complaints online today.

Updated 5pm

BANK OF IRELAND has apologised to customers for a technical glitch that affected debit card users this afternoon, confirming the issue has now been resolved.

In a statement, the bank said:

Visa debit cards are now working normally. We would like to sincerely apologise for the inconvenience that some debit card customers experienced this afternoon.

Earlier, Bank of Ireland said it was looking into complaints that its debit cards were not working in some stores.

A number of customers had contacted them to ask why money was unable to come out of their accounts.

Customers contacted the bank’s customer helpline on Twitter to ask why they were having issues using their cards.

One customer contacted them to say that multiple customers were unable to use their cards in one shop.
