Bankers who held key roles during the crisis to face tough questioning

THE FIRST TRANCHE of bankers who will face questioning at the banking inquiry have been named.

Nexus Phase

On 22 April the inquiry enters the ‘Nexus Phase’. This means that institutions and individuals will face tough questions in public hearings.

The key witnesses were revealed today, which include NAMA, Bank of Ireland, AIB, EBS and Ulster Bank.

• Bank of Ireland’s chief executive, Richie Boucher
• Former AIB boss, Eugene Sheehy
• Former Bank of Ireland chief executive, Brian Goggin
• Former governor at Bank of Ireland, Richard Burrows
• Former governor at Bank of Ireland, Laurence Crowley
• Former Ulster Bank executive, Robert Gallagher
• Former CEO of Ulster, Cormac McCarthy
• Former chairman of AIB, Dermot Gleeson
• Former chairman of AIB, Michael Buckley
• Former CEO of AIB, Donal Forde
• Corporate treasurer Bank of Ireland, Michael Torpey
• National Asset Management Agency’s, Frank Daly 
• National Asset Management Agency’s, Brendan McDonagh

NAMA is first up to answer questions from the inquiry, followed by the pillar banks and those who held the key roles at board and executive levels.

In total, there will be 64 hearings in the Nexus phase and it is envisaged there will be over 50 witnesses.
