VIDEO: Three BASE jumpers arrested after 1,776-foot jump off the World Trade Center

ONE THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED AND SEVENTY SIX FEET.

THREE BASE JUMPERS who posted footage of their incredibly terrifying antics at 1 World Trade Center last September have been arrested.

On 30 September 2013, the men launched themselves off the 1,776-foot building and landed safely on the Manhattan streets below.

A YouTube video of their stunt yesterday was posted yesterday and two of the suspects surrendered themselves at a local precinct.

A fourth man, who is said to have kept watch for the jumpers, has also been detained by police, according to NBC New York.

Andrew Rossig, James Brady, Marko Markovich and Kyle Hartwell face a number of charges including burglary and felony.

Rossig said that they took care to ensure they were not endangering anybody else with their jump – which took place at 3am.

However, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said the men violated the law.

“These arrests should send a message to anyone thinking about misusing a landmark this way. They will be tracked down and they will face serious charges. Being a thrill-seeker does not give immunity from the law.”

The acronym BASE stands for ‘Building Antenna Span Earth’.

Helmet-cam footage of the jump was posted to YouTube yesterday and Business Insider picked out some of the best bits.
