There are reports of a strong garda presence at Howth who are checking bags and confiscating alcohol.

Gardaí added that they were not worried about the situation escalating into the disturbances that took place on Portmarnock Beach two weeks ago.

A spokesperson for Irish Rail said that Sutton Station has been closed to all city services and will reopen when gardaí permit.
