Beaumont restricts visits after outbreak of winter vomiting bug

An outbreak of the winter vomiting bug means the hospital has introduced visiting restrictions, including to emergency wards.

BEAUMONT HOSPITAL has introduced restrictions on visitors to hospital patients due to an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

In a statement this evening the hospital said as many as 30 per cent of recent admissions to its emergency ward had shown symptoms of Norovirus.

Visiting hours have been cut back to between 2pm and 4pm, and between 6pm and 8pm. Visitors will be restricted to one per patient.

The rules also mean children are not permitted to visit the hospital under any circumstances.

The hospital has warned against the risks of Norovirus to the general patient population, and particularly to those with serious underlying conditions.

The hospital appealed to the public to comply with the new rules “for the common good”.
