Significant delays at Belfast Airport after plane gets stuck on runway

All flights were suspended, but the airport is now taking inbound aircraft.

THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT delays at Belfast International Airport after a freight plane got stuck on the runway this morning.

All flights were suspended for a period, but the airport has been taking inbound aircraft since 9am.

However, in a statement airport officials said “significant delays” remain, noting: ”If you are due to travel today please check with your airline for latest info.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Managing director at the airport, Graham Keddie, told BBC News the aircraft had landed “at the wrong time” and “in the wrong place”.

A freight air coming in to land just before 6am had a number of burst tyres and had to stop right in the junction of both our runways.

“We can’t move it in case there’s damage to the undercarriage so basically we’ve had to recalculate the mass to see what level of runway we can operate off,” Keddie said.
