Men with hammers approach driver after collision

The incident took place in Belfast shortly before midnight.

DETECTIVES IN BELFAST are appealing for information after a man’s car was struck by another vehicle, out of which two men with hammers emerged.

The incident took place in the Newtownbreda Road area of Belfast last night shortly before 12am.

Police said it was reported that a man was driving on the road when his car was struck by another vehicle and forced to stop.

Two men carrying hammers then got out of the vehicle and approached the man. He managed to get out of his car and made off on foot, and the men got back into their own vehicle and drove off.

The man suffered minor injuries to his knee and ribs during the incident. However, substantial damage was caused to his car.

The vehicle involved in the incident is believed to have been a dark coloured Honda CRV, which was seen driving erratically in the Lenaghan Park area a short time later when it was involved in a collision with a pedestrian.

The pedestrian was not injured in the collision.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact CID in Castlereagh on 0845 600 8000.

If someone would prefer to provide information anonymously, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
