The best photo editing apps you can download

If you take a lot of photos that could do with some touching up, these apps will do the job for you.

SO CHANCES ARE you went out for St Patrick’s Day and chances are you’ve taken quite a number of photos while you were there (after learning what you need to do).

While the traditional camera apps have their own editing functions, sometimes you need something a little more than just a filter and auto-enhance to improve a photo. Here are a few of the best apps out there.

Camera+
For: iOS
Cost: €1.79

One of the best camera apps out there for iOS, Camera+ has a ton of features that blows the standard camera app out of the water. With a number of shooting modes – including burst mode and a stabiliser among other things – and a ton of editing options, it’s well worth the investment.

VSCO Cam
For: iOS, Android
Cost: Free

If Instagram is for the average person, then VSCO Cam is the fancier alternative, although it’s much than that. It’s full of filters, editing options and a photo network that features more refined and artistic photos than what you would find elsewhere.

It’s simple to use and once you get your head around the different options, fine-tuning your photos becomes second nature.

SnapSeed
For: iOS, Android
Cost: Free

Purchased by Google back in 2012, Snapseed holds its own with a rather versatile photo editing suite. It’s not as precise as VSCO cam or Camera+, but it holds its own and won’t let you down should you need to edit on the go.

Prism
For: iOS
Cost: €2.69

While not a photo editing app per say, Prism is a handy app to accompany any of the other apps on this list. It focuses on colours so if you want to give your photo a certain mood, it allows for greater diversity than you would find on any temperature function.

Photo Editor By Aviary
For: iOS, Android, Windows Phone
Cost: Free

Photo Editor by Aviary pretty much does everything you expect a standard photo editing app to do, but also adds in its own surreal elements like adding meme text, and drawings to your photos.

Don’t let that fool you though as it’s a very competent photo editing app and offers the same functionality you would find on similar apps.

Adobe Photoshop Express
For: iOS, Android
Cost: Free

Alongside an advanced editing suite on desktop, Adobe Photoshop also has a photo editing app which is quite versatile for a free version. There are in-app purchases for those who want to do more than cropping and filters, but the free version is a worthy addition.

Those of you looking for a similar experience to the desktop version of Photoshop would be better off purchasing Photoshop Focus (€8.99 on iOS and €7.99 on Android).

Fhotoroom
For: Windows Phone
Cost: Free

One of the best photo editing apps on Windows Phone, Photoroom is packed with features like exposures, filters, brushes, giving you a level of customisation that puts the best apps to shame.

Pixlr Express
For: iOS, Android
Cost: Free

If there’s one thing Plxlr has in spades, it’s customisation. Alongside a simple pop-up interface for editing, there is an impressive number of filters and add-ons which is handy if you enjoy adding effects while touching up your images.
