JUST IN CASE you were wondering, here’s what €170 million worth of heroin looks like.

The drugs were found during an operation by Britain’s Royal Navy off the east coast of Africa, and are believed to be the biggest haul of heroin ever seized at sea.

The heroin, which weighs more than one tonne, was found on board a boat some 30 miles off the coast of Tanzania by sailors from the Australian warship HMAS Darwin, who were part of the Royal Navy-led group.

The heroin was hidden in amongst a cargo of cement.

A spokesperson for the United Nationals Office on Drugs on Crime said that the haul doubles the previous record for the biggest seizure of heroin from a ship on the high seas.

“[This] represents a significant blow to the drug smuggling networks,” said Royal Navy Commodore Jeremy Blunden, who heads the task force which found the drugs.

“We know that heroin trafficked into East Africa reaches the shorts of the UK and Europe which makes the success particularly satisfying for the UK officers and sailors serving in the task force”.

The heroin was destroyed after it was discovered.
