BARACK OBAMA and his family may have been attracting all of the attention on their arrival in Ireland – but Obama wasn’t the only US president on the island yesterday.

Bill Clinton also made a brief stop-off to Ireland, taking a brief stop-off at Shannon Airport on his way to the Middle East for a speaking engagement.

The 42nd President of the United States stopped at the Co Clare facility before heading onward to Israel, where he was speaking at an event in honour of the 90th Birthday of Israeli president Shimon Peres later this year.

At that event, Clinton advocated a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine – arguing that the growing Palestinian population in the West Bank should mean Israel acknowledging a Palestinian state to secure its own status.
