Bill Roache appears in court on rape charges

The 81-year-old is charged in relation to an alleged incident in 1967.

CORONATION STREET ACTOR Bill Roache appeared in court today, accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in 1967.

The 81-year-old was granted bail and is due to present for a preliminary hearing at Preston Crown Court on 10 June, reports BBC News.

The ITV star, who has played Ken Barlow since the soap began in 1960, has been charged with two counts of rape. He strenuously denies all allegations against him.

The television station has confirmed that Roache will not appear in Coronation Street until legal proceedings are concluded.
